Hey boys, Just checked out the blog for the first time in I'm sad to say how long...
I read the part obout the weekly posts now, good idea. I'd like to get back on board but I was just finding 5 chapters a day overwhelming. I'll do my best. Glad to see you guys are still plugging away!
Hey Chris, good to see some action. 5 chapters a day is daunting. Some days I am able to actually think about what I am reading, but other days it seems like I just read it to keep up without much conscious thought. No matter. The other day in Luke after reading the first sentence of a section, I realized that I could have closed the book and told you the gist of the rest of the section. Not that I have tried to memorize anything, but after reading through all the gospels a couple times through in a short time, something was bound to stick. I look forward to getting a grasp of God's Word this year like never before. I heartily recommend doing whatever you need to to get back on board.
Luke 6:20-49 was very convicting. No details to share. I just remember that Luke 6 was painful.
Luke 14:25-33 really caught my attention and I should take the time to dig into it deeper, but I probably won't. The word that leapt off the page and smacked me squarely twixt the eyes was in verse 33—renounce. What does it mean in our day and age to renounce everything we have? One thought I had in traffic, was to renounce my right to my spot in traffic. I can be very childish when driving. My natural responses are not unlike a little kid screaming "Mine!"
Luke 17:11-19. Think about our sin. Think about the cleansing from sin that comes through Jesus Christ. Now look at verses 16 and 19.
Somewhere along the way this last week during reading I thought it would be good to do a Bible study on calling out or crying out to God.
What was your favorite book on the 1st read-through?
